an idle mind....is a luxury

i didn't sleep much Friday night for 2 reasons: number one. i have a really bad cold. i couldn't breathe. head aches because of lack of oxygen. thick mustard-colored mucus. ew. and number two, the 105972509365834th typhoon to hit the Philippines in the latter half of the year (santi). as if ondoy (ketsana) or pepeng (don't know the intl name) or ramil (don't know either) didn't cause enough damage already. sheeesh when will it end?

luckily though, it only lasted a few hours. but flights were delayed (my sister has this cebu trip that she planned as early as march, and man, was she pissed), some people were stranded and (in our case) power outages that lasted 14 hours. it didn't affect me much since i don't have anything planned this weekend except ... well nothing really. i did go out for lunch, but the mall has no A/C. then i visited my grandma who had to undergo surgery or something to remove water in her lungs. it was quite a sight. i was there during her routine water extraction. it was yellowish and frothy...like beer. eeek.

when i got home, power was still out so i played psp for like 30 minutes then the battery went kaput. major bummer. i took out my mp3 player and listened to Alone by kristin chenoweth and matthew morrison over and over and over until 1AM. that's around the time my noisy electric fan came to life. by this time i was feeling woozy so i tried sleeping for a change.

woke up this morning still a bit feverish. as usual, everybody left. then a few of my relatives arrived to visit my other grandma (the one staying in our house). i was wandering around the dining area in my see-through kamison and white undies looking for breakfast as they were entering the front door. needless to say, i was NOT prepared for that. i hurriedly said hello and went back to my room to change. hassle much?

and can i just say, these bunch of people are not exactly my favorite. first of all, they're not nice. they take advantage of anyone especially my grandma. i've also nicknamed one aunt as the "dinuguan thief".

ok brief explanation.

every time there's a family gathering of sorts, my yaya's contribution is always...and i mean always....the famous dinuguan. this dish has been a staple, a mandatory part of family parties. my mom has hinted to cook a different dish once and this was brushed aside almost immediately with "walang dinuguan? di pwde...di pwede walang dinuguan!". anyway, this one time...my beloved yaya cooked probably the most delicious of all dinuguans. for some reason, on that day, there was magic in the kitchen and the already tasty dinuguan was soooo much better than those served years before. it was the talk of the town. the highlight of all highlights . "lydia (yaya)! ang sarap ng dinuguan mo ngayon ah!". "lydia ito na ang pinakamasarap na dinuguan na natikman ko". 2 hours later and with all the goodbyes and the brouhaha of a party is done and over with, we discovered that the leftover dinuguan (which was cooked in our house, the party was next door) was gone. we later found out it was taken by this particular aunt without telling anybody. she just entered our house, took microwavable plastic from our cupboard and packed the entire thing. ugh...bitch.

my mom never forgot that incident. the dinuguan was really that good. even if i'm not a huge fan of the dish in general, i hate my aunt on principle.

the story wasn't that brief but i had time to write. hahaha.

anyway, i avoided them as much as i could. i retreated back to my sanctuary and spent the better half of the day playing the sims 2.

people would say that my entire weekend was such a waste. that's probably true. i had a really relaxing time though. cerebral cells need not work too much. no anxiety pains at the back of my mind. no pending emails to send. no meetings to not look forward to.

so i beg to differ.

because, personally, there really is never enough time to do all the nothing you want.
