week 4: Go USTe!

this post came out late because i was soooo busy lying around sunday night.  hahaha.  kidding.  i wasn't feeling well.  this whole braces shit is killing me.

work for week 4 was pretty brutal.  multiple revisions on documents that i don't even think are important.  every hour of every day was like in slow motion.

it was almost magical when thursday finally came along.  i filed for a VL last friday so i can attend the quadricentennial celebrations at the old Alma mater.

i know it's cheesy, but i have been waiting for this event since i left college.  it's a huge deal for me and i feel so lucky that i was able to experience this in my lifetime.

i was there thursday night (for the countdown) and friday afternoon.  hehehe adik ba?  i was even supposed to commute the usual way, but since i was coming from Makati, i decided to take the trains instead.  i was there around 8PM and took a few photos first before meeting my friends.  these are the only ones that looked good haha

mini Main Building.  pretty awesome huh?

the real thing at night

i missed a loooot of good stuff that day.  i grabbed some shots from Carmela's facebook account, she has a DSLR and a really good eye:

Benavides Park a.k.a. lovers lane.  but they got rid of the benches...and most of the bushes
arch of the centuries.  ito ba yung piece from intramuros campus pa?  di ako sure.

umm hindi ko ito nakita

the Main Building...so happy na dito ang building ko:

cute!

i likey!

go uste!
 major major stuff i missed:

unveiling of the bronze statue (nakalimutan ko yung official name)

AND
zip line

zip line 2

di ko na natanong kung ano nangyari after this

ANYWAYYY....

i met with my college classmates for the countdown.  bongga raw ang fireworks.  pero 12 midnight pa so we went out to eat first.  shout out to Jose Bernardo Suratos for the free pizza at Yellowcab (forbes/lacson branch).

thanks so much Suratos!

wings, fries and chips

after dinner, photo op inside the main building:

first classroom haha

the Titanic stairs

lover's lane at night

R.I.P. Coop

R.I.P. Colayco Park

for the countdown, we stationed ourselves by the chapel.  every paskuhan, yung fireworks sa field talaga nanggagaling, so we thought this was the perfect place to view the show.

photos from Carmela:

ang daming tao!

pasko pa rin

there was a program of sorts before the finale with some alumni artistas performing onstage (sarah geronimo, aiza seguerra).  we didn't care so much about that but i'm hoping they release a video of all the events on dvd or something.

the fireworks came from the chapel itself...which was exciting!  pero masakit sa leeg ha! i have a video but it's too shaky.  it's probably uploaded in youtube anyway.

hay the feeling of nostalgia was pretty intense.  it was so so nice and i was super happy hahaha!  ang korni!  but seriously, so many really great memories.  everything that was so important to me happened when i was in college.  it was truly a special time.

friday, i went back to process some papers and buy souvenirs.  the campus has changed a lot since my time.  they are even building a sports complex now in front of the Engineering building.  galeng!

the highlight for friday is the grand dinner at plaza mayor (which is basically that open space in front of the main building) extending all the way to the end of benavides park.  tickets were a bit expensive (Php1590), pero na-sold out sya ha!

extra special tables ata ito

normal tables

sosyal!

i was able to score a few items that the alumni association were selling near the arch of the centuries.  a memorabilia shop was set up near the field but the line was super crazy.  i couldn't decide on what to do so i walked around first and then had a bite to eat.

400!

super daming priests (or bishops ba sila?) for the mass

nakaka-miss ang food trip sa dapitan.  best friend, remember reinan's infamous walkout?  burger king ata yun but...whatever!  haha!

late lunch at 4:30PM

foot long  + egg with gravy (Php 44.00)

eventually, i mustered enough courage to fall in line with the sentimental folks.  i met a general surgeon (class of '64 i think) and a poet (class of '72).  they were really nice.  they talked about the campus during their time.  they are both based abroad now and the came home just for this.

kaguluhan

really cool guys
i gave up my spot in line after 1.5 hours.  hopeless case.    here are the items that i got earlier.  i went back to the same spot pero naubos na yung items!  buti nakabili ako.

rawr!

cuteness!

useful naman ito diba?

the mass started as i was on my way out.   grabeh, going back to ust was one of the happiest days ever.

 i am such a dork.

i saw the green hornet that evening.  it was so-so.  fun, but you know, you forget about it once you leave the theater.

the weekend was uneventful because i was pretty much in vegetable state until monday night.  hahaha.  i did go out for lunch though at pizza hut

french onion soup

Texas Bake

Texas Bake take 2

tuna something hahaha.  ito yung masarap.

soooo....yun lang.  super haba na nito!
